"Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,
If you've a ready mind,
Where those of wit and learning,
Will always find their kind."

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
Ravenclaw House was founded by Rowena Ravenclaw. Their house mascot is a raven and their colors are bronze and blue. Its common room is located in the Ravenclaw Tower and climb a tight staircase to get there.
Instead of being guarded by a portrait, like Gryffindor, to enter the Ravenclaw common room one needs to answer a riddle that is given from a bronze, raven knocker. Since Ravenclaws are known for their wisdom, intelligence, and cleverness they can easily find the answer.
Stated from http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Ravenclaw, "This could prove troublesome as anyone with enough intellect could intrude into the dormitory. Where some professors have had no trouble entering by answering the riddle correctly. However, a student stated in her first year that most wizards and witches do not have much sense of logic, which might be something that Ravenclaw noticed herself and decided to use riddles instead of passwords."
Ravenclaw does not have a strong rivalry with any house, except Hufflepuff house in quidditch. But at the same time the friendships and support seem to be close with Hufflepuff as well.
The Ravenclaw house ghost is the Grey Lady, who was the daughter of the founder, Rowena Ravenclaw, wile she was alive.
"Wit beyond measure is a man's greatest treasure."

and thus its members are generally regarded as brave,
though sometimes to the point of recklessness." Source: http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Gryffindor
The Gryffindors have had an alleged rivalry with the Slytherin house since Hogwarts had been fonded.
Although, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff tend to side with Gryffindor on matters in the rivalry between the two houses.

The House System
"Welcome to Hogwarts,"
"The start-of-term banquet will begin shortly, but before you take your seats in the Great Hall, you will be sorted into your houses. The Sorting is a very important ceremony because, while you are here, your house will be something like your family within Hogwarts. You will have classes with the rest of your house, sleep in your house dormitory, and spend free time in your house common room.
The four houses are called Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Each house has its own noble history and each has produced outstanding witches and wizards."
- Professor McGonagall,

The Housing System is a large part of Hogwarts. Quidditch teams were constituted between house members and many other things as quoted by Professor McGonagell above.

The Founding Wizards
"Hogwarts was founded over a thousand years ago - the precise date is uncertain - by the four greatest wizards of the age. The four school houses are named after them: Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, and Salazar Slytherin.
They built this castle together, far from prying Muggle eyes, for it was an age when magic was feared by common people and witches and wizards suffered much persecution. For a few years, the founders worked in harmony together, seeking out youngsters who showed signs of magic and bringing them up to the castle to be educated."
